Wishing you…

Hello there friend or stranger.

Yes, I might know you, or I might know you not. My message for you stays the same because I can bet that no matter the way you live your day to day life, you have dreams, you have a beautiful soul and when you smile inside the whole world changes for you.

Dear YOU, I wish you:

To have every day at least 10 reasons to smile.

(for how you felt, for what you did, for what others did, for what you’ve read, for what you’ve wrote, for what you’ve seen, for what you ate…for any small or big moment of your life)

To meet every day at least 10 people you’re grateful for something.

(for the smile they have on their face, for the seat they’ve offered in the bus, for the colors of their clothes…for any small or big gesture)

To have the time every day to do at least one thing for yourself.

(give yourself a nice walk in the park, the time to meet a friend, the present of a delicious cookie, the company of a loved one)

04

To Love.

(yourself, the dear ones, your friends, your neighbors, the people you work with, the people from the street…everyone)

To Live.

(every experience, every failure, every success…every second of your life)

To thank yourself.

(for everything, because everything you live is due to yourself too)

[The weekly interview] Rene Schob, a Swiss in Romania

I had the chance to meet Rene at an event here in Bucharest. I was immediately impressed by his passion on changing things here in Romania and inspiring us too for a change. From this point Andreea took over and she realised this inspirational interview with him. Thank you Rene! Thank you Andreea!

I would like to give you a glimpse of a Swiss with a strong grip and valuable beliefs. His name is René Schöb and he has been living in Romania for the past five years. In present, he is a partner at a tax audit advisory company and a full entrepreneur in spirit and action. Hopefully, this interview will manage to be a cultural shock in a good sense for all you wandering Romanian entrepreneurs.

I cannot understand any Romanian, who is clever and intelligent, why would he want to leave this country”.

René, please tell us a little about your passions?

“My passion is entrepreneurship, to move together with people a company or a project into an area where we wouldn’t have thought of at the very beginning. In my private life I try to follow opportunities, I have a lot of ideas, a lot of projects and I always try to implement certain things. Since I’m an entrepreneur, this goes hand in hand with my business life, where I and people surrounding me, do new things, create ideas to develop. By this I believe that human beings can grow.”

What brought you to Romania? Was your journey adventurous?

“It was very hard to land here to a certain extent, because of the differences encountered. I came to Romania because of the challenges of a not Swiss country, meaning a lot of opportunities, a lot of things you could move.

As René says, “Switzerland is a country 180 degrees different than Romania” and although we generally share the same European culture, “nevertheless in the daylight things are quite different”. Such examples include “what is considered punctual or timing, or regarding quality”.

“Swiss people base discussion on trust. We meet for the first time, we want to do business with each other, we both trust each other, and we do not cheat. What I’ve learned very much in Romania is that if you meet for business, you first have to undergo a set of checks from the other, to make sure that he believes you are not cheating him. There is a basic mistrust in all collaboration in Romania and this was totally new for me, because I trust people from the first moment, until there is a negative event of course. I strongly believe that only by this you can move certain things.”

Multumesc!

Adina Ovedenie, Fundatia Copiii Nostri: Spune-ne cateva cuvinte despre Fundatia Copiii Nostri si ce faceti voi in Romania.

Copii 1

Bani. Timp. Fericire. Ti le doresti prezente in viata ta?

We all have a dream. Two stories. Two miracles.

I start writing this post with tears in my eyes. Tears of joy, gratitute and admiration. All these because I just found the story of Amy Purdy. This story lead me to another incredible one, so in this post I will share two real stories.

First story:

In few words, so that you know what is to follow in the video below, when she was 19, Amy Purdy lost both her legs below the knee. And now … she’s a pro snowboarder. Her power is beyong comprehension. And still, she is a living example that it is possible to live our dreams.

The video:

Second story:

Few years ago I’ve decided to run off from the corporation I was working for. I felt it was time for me to get closer to my dreams. And, at that point I had the chance to meet some incredible people who welcomed me in their organisation. But this is not what I want to talk to you about. What I want to tell is that they were living examples of what means to live your dreams. Diana, Maria and Dana (and many more) became role models for me (and this time not from another country, not from some internet movie, but in real life; actually right in front of my eyes) on what it takes to live your dream. THANK you Diana. THANK you Maria. THANK you Dana. THANK you Cristi. Thank you dear day dreamers and change agents. THANK you IMPACT.

Now, after all this time, due to them too I can look back and be grateful that I could live some of my dreams. And, even more, they gave me the chance to give something back, to contribute to their dream. Their dream that every year touches the lives of thousands of young kids from Romania. They did not talk much about it, but kept on being the change they wanted to see in the world instead. Now, they do talk too and they give you all the chance to meet them and change, at your turn, the life of the young kids from Romania.

I am grateful for this campaign also because it gave me the opportunity to make the best present ever to Romania on December 1st – to invest in its future, which I did. They did it. I did it. Now it is your turn.

[The weekly interview] Richard Newton “Stop Talking, Start Doing”

I did not had (yet) the chance to meet Richard in person. But, I cannot wait for this moment to happen. Until then, I can tell you that it was a real pleasure to discover him through this interview as well as the book he wrote together with Shaa Wasmund. Thank you Richard!

“the idea of resigning a steady income to set up my own business was hard. Really hard. And that’s because a steady income in a job you don’t want is one of the most insidious traps life throws at you. ” – Richard Newton.

Let’s get acquainted! Richard, you’re an entrepreneur, consultant and co-writer of the upcoming book “Stop Talking Start Doing”. But besides these labels, you’re a man that walks the talk in a way that inspires people. Was it hard to walk the talk and how did it happen?

Thanks, Mihail. Like most people my career hasn’t followed a smooth trajectory. I began my working life as a researcher on a business magazine and that was just a way to pay the bills. Becoming a journalist was a natural progression but it wasn’t part of a life plan. It was simply the obvious thing to do given where I was and the fact that I enjoyed writing. So that part was simple. And of course, the years drifted by, I drifted by and the older I got, the more complicated it got. Who’d a thought?!

Having established a career as a journalist and having been inspired by all the successful people you get to meet as a business journalist I wanted to have a go at doing it myself. In other words I wanted to shift from talking about business to doing it!

But, funnily enough, even though I had gone as far as I wanted in business journalism the idea of resigning a steady income to set up my own business was hard. Really hard. And that’s because a steady income in a job you don’t want is one of the most insidious traps life throws at you.

For a long time I was waiting for the optimal moment to jump from one job (which I wanted to leave) to the next (which I couldn’t wait to start).

And it took a long time. Well, of course it did, because there is no optimal time. Or let me put it another way, the optimal time is always “now”(That’s a simplification but the broad thrust is right).

Once I started on my first business it was tough. We were always short of money. And we eventually went bust.

But the second time round it wasn’t so tough. Because I’d already started taking responsibility for my path by resigning the steady job. And to cut a long story short the second business was full of challenges – financial, strategic, difficult people, politics – but we got there in the end.

Since then I’ve worked with many businesses of many sizes and with many different challenges.

Co-author of a funny, straightforward and compelling book, in what context did the need to write such a message come along? How did it begin and what did it turn into?

Wow, these are good questions! Three things drove my thinking:

1/ Now is a really good time to start things. Principally because the Internet has empowered us to:

· connect with knowledge,

· start projects at low cost,

· see the possibilities (other people’s stories)

· be freed of convention (because now we see different ways of doing things every time we fire up our laptops)

So that was why it felt like the right time to do it.

2/ A different way of consuming knowledge and ideas

Again the Internet is critical here. Thanks to the web we are much more creative and sensitive to how ideas are transmitted and consumed. Almost everyone below the age of 30 knows what UX stands for. That’s pretty amazing. In this book I wanted to be much freer, looser, funnier in talking about a message which is important. The constraints of a traditional layout are historical and I don’t want to necessarily read a book like that or write a book like that. After all, no-one will enjoy reading a book that you don’t enjoy writing!

This was why I wanted it to look and feel like it does.

3/ The global economy is pretty screwed right now. You can’t rely on a job for life. Safe jobs are a thing of the past. We all need to be nimble, creative, energetic and brave. That’s a pretty scary thing for a lot of people. I wanted to present this mindset as a fun and logical way to think.

This fed into the style of the book and the urgent imperative of the message.

In describing your book, “Stop Talking, Start doing!”, you pointed out that it is not strictly destined for the “entrepreneurial business person but for the entrepreneurial in spirit”. How would you describe this entrepreneurial spirit?

It is bold, creative, self-trusting, scared, brave, curious, ambitious and full of love of life.

21 km run with Mental fitness training

More than a year ago I started several experiments in order to validate a mental fitness training program that I am developing for some years by now. The goal of the mental fitness training program: 100% success rate in achieving the right goals. The goal for one of the experiments meant to validate this training program: to run a marathon with this mental fitness training, without running preparation.

Last year, in October, I had the first attempt during Bucharest International Marathon. I did manage to run 15 km. Taking into account the lessons from last year’s race I made several changes to the mental fitness training program as well as changed the goal for this edition of the Bucharest Running Marathon. As a result of these changes, this year I sign up for the semi-marathon race which I successfully finished in 2:00:16.50.

Disclaimer: Of course that a combined training (both mental and running) could have made things easier, but taking into account the purpose of the experiment I’ve decided to stick only to mental fitness training.

Since I started the development of this mental fitness training program I’ve validated it in several areas of my life and then I had the chance to see the impact in some other people’s life too. The goals can vary and they can cover areas such as relationships, hobbies, career, entrepreneurship, self esteem, sports, money, spirituality, family and many more.

Now it is time to scale it and below, if you are interested, I have a proposition for you.

Success

The proposition: I want to talk with as many people as possible this week (until Thursday, October 27th) about this mental fitness training program. Just have a friendly conversation where we can eventually inspire each other. It does not matter if we know each other or not. Exchanging some emails or having 15 minutes conversation would be more than helpful in order to see the feedback from someone else than myself and the people who know this project already. If it sounds interesting, you can either leave a comment below, email me at this address or call me if you already have my number.
